Creslane Update 10/13

Dear Creslane families,

Oregon Battle of the Books is beginning. This is a reading competition for grades 3-5. Students form teams of 4 and read from the list of 16 OBOB books, then compete against other teams in our school to answer questions about the books. Practice battles will be in January with final battles in early February. The team that performs the best will move on to the regional competition.
OBOB permission slips went home with students last week. If your child is interested in participating, we are extending the deadline for sign-ups to Monday October 16th. Please go over the information pamphlet and make sure that your child can commit to reading the books and attending team practice (most teams practice during the lunch/recess period but each coach determines their practice schedule). Permission slips need to be signed by a parent for your child to be placed on a team. Also, we are always looking for parents willing to coach teams so please mark if you are interested in coaching.
Please write the following information on a sheet of paper : Student name, grade, and teacher; parent phone number, email and signature; permission for photos to be taken of your child and potentially posted to the Creswell OBOB Facebook page; willingness to coach; names of other students they’d like to form a team with.
All permission slips are to be turned into the Creslane library.
Thank you!
Creslane OBOB team

Creslane Update 10/12

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In an effort to ensure that the unique needs of military-connected students are met, school districts in Oregon are required to identify ‘students of military families’ beginning with the 2017-18 school year. The purpose of collecting this data is to remove barriers to educational success imposed on children of military families because of frequent moves and deployment of their parents.

Students that meet this criteria include:

– Students who are placed with a temporary guardian while one or both parents are deployed,
– Students whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are full-time Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard active or training duty,
– Students whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are full-time National Guard members,
– Students whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are Active Duty Reserves, or
– Students whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are Dual Status Military Technicians.

If your student(s) meets one of the criteria above, then please contact your student’s school office staff to update your student’s registration information.

Thank you.

Creslane Update 10/10

Good morning Creslane families. This Friday is our state-wide in-service day which means no school for students. Licensed Creslane staff will participate in a variety of professional development opportunities on the 13th.

Our Jog-A-Thon last Friday was a huge success and I want to thank our PTO and all the volunteers who donated their time to support our students and our school. It has come to my attention that we had over-zealous volunteers providing students with “bonus” tally marks (each tally mark represents one lap around the high school track) so the lap total that your child came home with might not be an accurate reflection of how many laps were actually run/walked during each grade’s 30-minutes on the track.

We want people who pledged money to support our Jog-A-Thon to feel comfortable with the amount of money they provide to our school so please send in what feels right to you and your family. Our Jog-A-Thon chairperson, and the majority of volunteers, had no knowledge that any additional laps were being awarded to students. Twelve laps (3 miles) seems like a reasonable total for a child to have completed during the time allotted so if your child’s lap total seems inflated feel free to cap the per-lap donation to 12 laps.

If you have any questions or concerns about last Friday’s Jog-A-Thon please contact me at 541-895-6140 or at
