Western Oregon University Scholarships

2017-18 Presidential Scholarship (Graduating High School Seniors Only)
This scholarship is a four year award with amounts varying from $1,000 to $5,500 per year. See table below for awarding criteria.

  • Presidential 30 ACT/1390 SAT (New*) /1330 SAT (Old**) 3.8 $5,500
  • Provost 26 ACT/1240 SAT (New*)/ 1170 SAT (Old**) 3.7 $2,500

To receive the scholarship all four years, students must adhere to the following renewal requirements.

Renewal Requirements:

Students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative WOU GPA
Students must complete at least 36 credits per academic year
Must be enrolled in 12 credits per term at WOU to receive the scholarship.
To receive the scholarship complete the General Scholarship Application on https://wou.academicworks.com. You must have a WOU Portal username and password to access the General Scholarship Application.

Presidential Plus Scholarship
Presidential scholarship recipients initially awarded after the 2014-2015 academic year, may receive an additional $250.00, if they maintain a 3.0 cumulative WOU GPA and complete at least 45 credits per academic year.

Must be enrolled in 12 credits per term at WOU to receive the scholarship.

Transfer Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to new transfer students for up to two years.

Minimum 3.5 transferable GPA
$2,500 per year
To receive the Provost scholarship both years, students must adhere to the following renewal requirements.

Renewal Requirements:

  • Students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative WOU GPA
  • Students must complete at least 36 credits per academic year
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credits per term at WOU to receive the scholarship.

International Baccalaureate Scholarship
Awarded to incoming freshman completing full international baccalaureate diploma.

Minimum score 30 or higher
Amount is $2,500 per year
Scholarships is awarded up to four years

  • Students must complete at least 36 credits per academic year
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credits per term at WOU to receive the scholarship.

Diversity Commitment Scholarship
At Western Oregon University, we believe a diverse campus community improves the overall quality of education our students receive by offering a mix of experiences, opinions, and viewpoints. We are committed to recognizing and supporting outstanding students from diverse cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds, with unique talents, interests, and life experiences.

  • Awarded to high school senior and new transfer students
  • Scholarships are $4,000 per year
  • New freshman can be awarded up to 4 years
  • Transfer students can be awarded up to 2 years

To continue receiving the Diversity Commitment Scholarship in future years, students must adhere to the following renewal requirements:

  • Students must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative WOU GPA
  • Students must complete at least 36 credits per academic year
  • Students must pass the Diversity Commitment Class
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credits per term at WOU to receive the scholarship.

David S. Brody Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1995 by Dr. Richard W. Woodcock and Dr. Ana F. Munoz-Sandoval, in memory of David S. Brody. Dr. Woodcock is a former faculty member and colleague of David Brody who also taught at Western Oregon University.

First preference will be given to applicants who are members of underrepresented ethnic minority groups, especially Hispanic. Second preference will be given to applicants who are bilingual. Third preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated financial need. Fourth preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated a strong academic record. Additional preference will be given to applicants who are or will be first generation college students.

  • Awarded to high school senior and/or new transfer students
  • Scholarship will be awarded to cover the cost of room and board, tuition, fees, and books (minus any other grants/scholarships)
  • This scholarship is renewable
  • Minimum Scholarship Requirement: Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative High School GPA/College Transfer GPA

To continue receiving the David S. Brody Memorial Scholarship in future years, students must adhere to the following renewal requirements.

Renewal Requirements:

  • Students must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative WOU GPA
  • Students must complete at least 36 credits per academic year
  • Students must pass the Diversity Commitment Class
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credits per term at WOU to receive the scholarship.

ASPIRE High School Partnership Award
This nonrenewable scholarship is awarded to incoming freshman nominated by their high school ASPIRE program coordinator. Each ASPIRE program is limited to two nominations per year.

  • $500 nonrenewable scholarship
  • Must be nominated by qualifying ASPIRE coordinator
  • Must be enrolled in 12 credits per term at WOU to receive the scholarship.

To receive the ASPIRE Scholarship complete the General Scholarship Application at https://wou.academicworks.com an apply for the APSIRE Scholarship. You must have a WOU Portal username and password to access the General Scholarship Application.

 

WOU Foundation Scholarships
Complete the general application to start applying for all WOU Foundation Scholarships at https://wou.academicworks.com/secure and to automatically apply for over 70 general scholarships! You may also click on the WOU Scholarship link on your WOU Portal to complete your application. Minimum General Scholarship Requirements: Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative High School GPA.

  • Only those students who have been completely admitted to Western Oregon University may apply for WOU Foundation Scholarships, as access to our general application requires a WOU Portal username and password.
    • Complete and submit your application to the WOU Admissions Office to receive a WOU Portal username.
  • To maximize your scholarship and financial aid eligibility remember to file your FAFSA. The FAFSA for the 2017-18 academic year will become available October 1st, 2016.
    • If you and/or your parents do not have your 2015 tax information in January, you can still file your FAFSA using an educated estimate and update your financial information with actual values after your taxes have been filed.
  • Students are encouraged to begin the scholarship application prior to the deadline to allow time for processing and potential technical difficulties. The availability for last-minute technical assistance may not make it possible for students applying only days or hours before the deadline to submit a quality scholarship application.
