So what’s up with a “Recycled Art Contest?”

During the Contest students learned to create sculptures and other artwork from re-used materials, without the use of adhesives. The available materials were generously donated by Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts (M.E.C.C.A.), and the activity was led by volunteers extraordinaire Titus Tomlinson and Stephanie Scafa from the University of Oregon’s Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) Program. Students either took their artwork home with them, or teachers put their students’ work on display in their classrooms.

Gotta Ride

May is National Bike Month!

Bike to School Day is May 9.

Bike to Work Day is May 18.

Take a ride or two.

Be safe and wear a helmet. Need a helmet? Check with your school office.

The origins of the bicycle are shrouded in mystery. It is not possible to attribute its invention to any single person. Still, what is clear is that the early ancestors of the modern bicycle were in use by the early 1800s… Read more about the history of the bicycle @ The National Museum of of American History

Food is Served!

Recently Creswell Middle School’sSurvival Skills Class” served up a Cinco de Mayo themed lunch for Creswell’s local food pantry’s staff and patrons.  Taught by Ms. Laura Thomas, students from the class used their newly acquired food handler cards to prepare and serve the food. The cost of the cards were covered by a grant awarded from the Creswell Education Foundation.

The event was held at the the local VFW Hall where Creswell’s Food Pantry is hosted.  Learn more about the “Community Food for Creswell” program here.

Students Dish Up Lunch for the Needy

By Jennifer Richardson

CRESWELL, Ore. — Creswell Middle School students dished up some community kindness Thursday.

As a part of the school’s food drive for the Lane County Food Bank of Creswell, the students decided to serve up a taco lunch to those in need.

The survival skills class helped cook up the meal.

The food bank helps around 170 families a month, and it says that’s barely skimming the surface of those in need.

“I just think that it’s good to help our community when they’re in need of food,” said 8th grader Kyra Hanson.

“Since Creswell’s like a small town and everybody’s kind of like a family here, we thought it would be pretty cool to come serve everyone,” said 8th grader Gisell Lozano… Read more here.
