Mr. Winston Cornwall speaking with
students at our high school on February 4th
Please come and learn about bullying and harassment in
schools and what you can do as a parent to support your child.
Dear Parents and Guardians:
In the Creswell School District, we are committed to creating an educational
environment in which our students can thrive, learn, and grow; therefore we
feel it is important to share a
letter
from Lane County District Attorney Alex Gardner
concerning a new danger to our children – sexting. Sexting is the term given
to the act of juveniles sharing sexually explicit or nude cell phone photos
of themselves or others. It is our belief that this type of activity is best
addressed by parental involvement and education. Alex Gardner will be
working closely with Lane County schools to develop educational programs
that enlighten our children to this danger.
In addition to the work with Alex Gardner, Creswell School District
administrators are collaborating with teachers, parents, and community
members to take preventive measures to ensure Creswell students are not
endangered by this new phenomenon. As a first step,
Creswell School District is hosting
a district-wide Parent/Community Forum on February 22nd at 6:30 PM at
Creswell Middle School to proactively address issues of student
harassment and sexting. Mr. Winston Cornwall, from the Civil Rights section
of the Oregon Department of Education, will be the featured speaker at the
forum.
Respectfully yours,
Mrs. Ruby Price

Our Community, Our Schools, Our Stories
The Creswell School District and the
Creswell business community have teamed up to bring these stories to you
Many of you know Kallie Botefur. You also know she was the lone survivor of a tragic accident in May of 2009. The driver of the truck, 18 year old Brandon Leslie died in that accident. Take a few minutes to listen to Kallie and Brandon's parents as they navigate the difficult road to recovery from such a horrible accident.

With their collection period ended. All that was left was the deliver to our local
food bank.
Since
Creswell's local food bank is
adjacent to our middle school delivery was fun and easy for students and
staff.
CMS students and staff delivered the donated
food during their morning advisories over a three day period.

NewArt Northwest Kids:
Heroes and Heroines
The
photo was shot by her sister Tiernan.
5th Grader Delaney Pietsch learned recently that her art piece named "Eco
Woman" was selected for inclusion in the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's
third annual k-12 student art show. NewArt Northwest Kids: Heroes and
Heroines will be on view from December 1- March 28, 2010 in the north and
south hallways of the JSMA on the University of Oregon campus.
Area teachers were asked to have their students submit pieces in keeping
with the theme of the museum's fall exhibition Faster Than a Speeding
Bullet: The Art of the Superhero on exhibit at the museum now.
A jury selected 60 pieces for display from the over 400 works of art that
were submitted according to Lisa Abia-Smith Director of Education for JSMA.
Submissions came from as far away as Portland and included the communities
of Beaverton, Corvallis, Sisters as well as children from Eugene and
Springfield.
Delaney's piece featured a heroine name Eco Woman who makes "our world stay
clean!"
"The superhero has the power to keep the world from being polluted. With the
snap of her fingers she can turn plastic bottles into reusable items and
toys! She also has a magical green thumb and can talk to plants and
encourage them to thrive and grow!" according to Pietsch.
Well Done!
