October was our training and conference month.

7 staff members are participating in Stuber U.- Curriculum Development

8 staff members attended the Accelerated Reading Training

4 staff members attended the Accelerated Math Training

6 staff members attended the Michigan Model Training - this is the new health curriculum that we will be using.

5 staff members attended the National Middle Conference in Portland where over 8000 middle level educators learned and shared ideas.

** Jody Young, one our new teachers presented at the conference!

Our middle school students behaved extremely well during the whole month of October especially for having so many substitutes. We believe this is due to the implementation of GROWL, our new behavior system. We had extra GROWL ticket drawings and we used different colors for specific days.

Parent Teacher Conferences 220 parents of our 300 students have signed up for parent teacher conferences.

CSRD Grant Update We should be able to start using the Accelerated Math Program next week! The computers, scanners and printers are here. The implementation of Accelerated Reader is still about 6 weeks off. There is a lot more prep that needs to be completed with our library books.

Brady Fund Grant Kim Jordan applied for the Brady Fund Grant and we received $175.00. The Oregon School Board Association coordinated a distribution of a grant to aid needy students. The Brady Fund is designated to target students in Oregon public school with financial needs for supplies. The amount this year was $25.00. CMS received funds for seven students with various needs. 1,066 applications were filed state wide, so we feel fortunate to have received seven. The needs of our students varied from winter shoes to new PE uniforms. Each student will receive the items within the next month.

Facilities Committee This committee (a subcommittee of the Strategic Planning Committee met on 10/24 and the next meeting will take place on November 19th at 6:45 AM in the CMS library. We will read and discuss the reports from WESD and Dull Olsen Weeks Architects regarding the cost and future options for the Middle School. Options and suggestions will be considered regarding the current gym floor.
