MEMORANDUM From the department of technology

~ Creswell public schools ~

“Preparing Students for success”

to:                              Creswell Board of Directors and Dr. Rick Stuber

from:              JOEL HIGDON, Technology Director

subject:          Activity report

date:              6/17/2009

High speed fiber will come online this July for our districts internet connectivity.  This project has been a long time coming.  The improved speeds and reliability will be a welcome occurrence for the entire district.  Our two T-1 lines will be retired once the fiber is online.

This time of year finds the department busy supporting our schools end of the year activities as well as gearing up for our summer workload.  As you know, we are a year around operation and the summer months finds us doing the more extensive maintenance and retrofitting that we cannot typically perform during the school year.

Included on the slate for the Technology Department’s summer workload -

The replacement of the 2nd lab at the middle school (The lab is currently made up entirely of donated and used computers)

Supplement the mini portable lab at our high school with more notebook computers

Supplement and replace worn notebook computers in the portable labs at our elementary school

Replace worn monitors with more efficient LCD monitors throughout the district (Many of our monitors are showing their age and inefficiency)

Repair or replace several aged and worn staff computers

Every computer in our district will be visited this summer.  Along with the computers, other technology components will also be serviced.  These include components like printers and network equipment.

Additionally, several systems will have their licensure renewed and be updated.

Systems such as,

Our district’s antivirus protection

Reading Counts at Creslane (reading comprehension testing and lexical assessment)

Renaissance Learning at our middle school (reading comprehension testing, lexical assessment, and math comprehension testing)

Follet Library software for our schools (card catalog and check out/in)

Student computers system protection software for all facilities

This summer also marks the wrapping up of loose ends at our new middle school.  Technology workings for the building will be finalized; items such as the security cameras and lighting controls.

Thank you.
