SUMMARY:†† The Classified Union would like the district to ratify a memorandum of agreement to grant an exception to Article XIV of the collective bargaining agreement.OSEA would like an employee who left the district two years ago to be able to return to her position at her previous step level 10.The CBA has no provision for such circumstance and the District Office may only grant five years experience as provided under section B of the Article XIV.For an exception to the CBA, the union and school board need to certify their agreement by memorandum and action (ratification).

SUPERINTENDENTíS ADVICE:A group desiring the addition of a new sport will follow this report.I would recommend the board post the Adding Sports proposal for either the Policy Manual and/or the Athletic Handbook.While the soccer advocates may have completed the form, it is not district practice at this time and regardless of merits and content of the form the district is best served by having the HS administration respond to the request prior to the board taking action on the request.

SUMMARY:The HS will be transitioning once again from one AD to another with the resignation of Mr. Apo.The job description history of the AD is near legendary given that the job has been held in the past 10 years by a certified staff person, a coach who was not a teacher in our district, an assistant principal, and Mr. Apo himself who has had various responsibilities in addition to the AD.On the advent of someone else becoming AD and given that it is not a CEA stipend position, and given we are entering into a new league venue, and given the athletic budget it would seem that our first order of business would be to define or perhaps re-define the job description.I have asked Mr. Ophus to prepare two job descriptions: 1) to detail every expectation we have for an AD; and 2) a trimmed version more in line with our PacWest counterparts.

 

SUPERINTENDENTíS ADVICE:We are a 2A school with a 4A appetite in my opinion.The amount of work expected, combined with the prerequisites desired, of our AD are not congruent with our ability to compensate.Before a new AD is hired the board needs to approve a job description and clarify any issues relative to the workload, whether the position should be isolated from coaching, and any other caveats.
