CRESWELL SCHOOL DISTRICT #40

BOARD AGENDA FACT SHEET

MEETING DATE:      August 13, 2003

AGENDA ITEM:        # 10

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

1. The board requested follow up information regarding students who were

identified as being residents of Creswell School District and attending

other schools without benefit of a mutual agreement, or possibly, on a ruse.

Both host districts we notified last May have responded to the letter we

sent to them.  Both districts have notified the parents that the student can

no longer attend their schools, however one of those decisions has been

appealed by the parents.

2.  The District Office move is progressing.  I approved bids for sheetrock,

mechanical, and ceiling contractors last week.  The electrical and

communications wiring is finishing up albeit we had a problem with the

conduit installed by the general contractor...this is being addressed by

them.  We intend to move the communications center first.

3.  Most of the laptop computers stolen from the Middle School have been

recovered and the perpetrators have been interviewed.  It will take some

time to restore the units and a few may need extensive repairs.  One was

tossed into the river so it may not be salvageable but we will press for

monetary recovery.

4.  Skydivers made a landing at the high school shortly before the July 4th

fireworks disregarding the airport manager’s decision to deny them

permission to do so.  The Chamber had rented the facility on the 4th and

they are upset this happened.  The Chamber wrote the skydiving company,

lodged a complaint and requested the company apologize to CSD.  The request

was made some time ago and I have notified the Chamber that no such letter

has been submitted to CSD.  While the act was dangerous and certainly not

condoned by me, I think it is a matter for the airport to pursue rather than

CSD and I think we would support whatever action the airport thought

appropriate.
