Grant received.  This district is a recipient of the Title IID - Enhancing Education through Technology Competitive Grant.  As reported last month, this department was working with Dr. Adler on the grant.  With the huge assistance of Lane ESD, namely Lynn Larry and a partnership with South Lane School District, our application was SUCCESSFUL.  The total grant request was $134,848.   The grant request includes technical professional development for district staff and 198 Palm OS Handhelds for participating staff and students.   Now the work begins – to quote the opening statements of the grant application “This project will provide Creslane Elementary and Creswell Middle School teachers with a yearlong program of intensive staff development focused on the integration of handheld technology and virtual manipulatives into math instruction. This research-based staff development model will consist of face-to-face training, online learning, mentoring relationships, and school-based teams. Staff development activities will be in conjunction with our partners, Lane Education Service District (LESD), South Lane School District (SLSD), and the Eugene School District 4J (ESD4J).”

District-wide and ongoing:

·        District Technology Budget

o       Budget numbers have been received from the Business Manager

o       Draft Technology Services and Security Support budgets have been submitted

·        Technology maintenance and upkeep.

o       Recently the district technology resources have been plagued by viruses and other malicious programs.  In one day, there were 298 occurrences of a Trojan horse virus.  Fortunately, the safeguards that are in place prevented serious damage.   A renewed awareness by staff and students on the supervision and proper use of district technology resources will be advocated by this department.  We will be working with building administrators to foster a better awareness and observing of district policy on technology.

·         Curriculum support.

·         Staff training on district’s technology
