CHS Site Council Minutes

 

 

Members Attendin= g:  Reece Speas, Jan Ophus, Mandi Wright, Kathi Jackson, Heather Scott, Don Gwyther, Wendy Zacharias, Diana Shumate

 

Guests:  Jacki Turle, Kristen Gunson, Sue Bowers

 

Jan Ophus called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. 

 

Old Business<= o:p>

 

It was reported that after much solicitation there has been no inte= rest shown from the community to be involved in the sub-committee to make recommendations to the Board regarding the policy for determining the valedictorian/salutatorian.  Jan suggested that we involve Lonn Robertson as he has invested a great amount of time in researching this iss= ue.

 

Jackie Turle and Kristin Gunson from Lane ESD were present to lend their help in developing a school profile.  Jackie has several profiles from s= mall, medium and large schools that we have access to use in developing ours.  A meeting will be set up with Jack= ie, Mandi, Jan and our student teachers with the intention to expedite this process.

 

Jan thanked Jackie and Mandi for meeting the October 14 deadline to= get information in that was needed for the Fall Report.  This report required by the Northw= est Association of Accredited Schools was filed in a timely manner, meeting the= October 15 deadline. 

 

The Class of 2007 has been given new graduation requirements –= ; CRLS (Career Related Learning Standard= s).  We must start collecting evidence of students meeting these standards.  It is now required by the state to access life skills by having career related experiences.  Students will have projects that culminate during their high school career rather than having a senior project.  This augments, not replaces academics.  Career re= lated standards are broad, designed to show student process or planning and will = be tools to help in any career.

 

Wendy and Jan will be working to implement tracking of these standa= rds as soon as possible.

 

New Business<= o:p>

 

Members shared examples of mission statements and ideas were exchan= ged in an attempt to develop our own mission statement.  Key words that were repeated during this brainstorming session were:  problem-solving, community, safe a= nd caring, individuality, tolerance, respect of authority, success, inspire and lifetime learning.

Trish and Mandi will craft some examples to choose from and present= to Jan.

 

Next Meeting<= o:p>

 

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at 3:30.  We have moved this up a week due to parent/teacher conferences being held on our regular third Tuesday of the month.
