DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Flag Salute is read the first school day of each week. Announcements are read over the intercom each day at the beginning of second period and distributed to all teachers. Students should listen carefully for important information.

Students wishing to have messages placed in the announcements should pick up a form in the office and obtain the appropriate teacher or advisor signature.

VISITORS AND GUESTS

Parents are always welcome and encouraged to visit their student's classes. Prior to their visit, parents must first contact the main office and make arrangements with CHS administration prior to visiting their student's classroom.

If possible, it is recommended that parents contact CHS administration 24 hours in advance in order to arrange a visit.

Students are not allowed to host other students.

Visitors must check in at the main office at any time during the school day

TELEPHONE CALLS TO STUDENTS

Our secretary and student aides are instructed not to accept telephone message for students from anyone but parents/guardians.

We further request parents restrict their calls to unusual or unforeseen reasons to eliminate interruptions of classes. We earnestly request that you plan ahead and eliminate these calls whenever possible. Your cooperation in this matter will be appreciated.

TELEPHONE CALLS FROM STUDENTS

We ask our students to use the pay telephone located outside the Activity Room for personal calls. If a student is ill or having some difficulty, we will call you or have the student call in our presence.

We are sorry that we cannot allow our general student body to have free access to our business telephones, but we cannot transact school business if our lines are jammed with personal telephone calls made by students. The pay telephone charge is $.50.

FLOWERS, BALLOONS, BIRTHDAY SURPRISES, ETC.

It is difficult to stress an academic atmosphere and allow classes to be interrupted for festive occasions for individual students. If flowers are delivered to school, florists are to bring them to the main office and students will be called to receive them; however, we will avoid calling students out of class for this. We would like to ask your cooperation in sending "surprise" visitors to our building to celebrate a birthday. We would prefer that such guests not appear. However, please call the main office to inform one of the administrators if a visit is to be made. Please confine such visits to the lunchtime. We will not allow such visitors into the classrooms or call students from class for this.

LOCKERS

Each student is issued a school locker at the beginning of the school year. Two (2) students are assigned to each locker. A student must keep their assigned locker the entire school year. Changes will be made only on an emergency basis. The school, its personnel, and the members of the School Board, assume no responsibility for items stolen from student lockers at Creswell High School.

Students are urged not to place money or valuable items in lockers for safekeeping. Lockers are in good working order at the beginning of the school year and every effort will be made to keep the lockers in proper repair. It is the student's responsibility to maintain proper care of the school locker. Damage to lockers, other than normal wear, will result in a charge to the occupants for the repair of that locker.

The schools are properly concerned about the use of the lockers for storage of illegal items.

Lockers may be opened at the discretion of building administrators in a prudent way, at an appropriate time, and in a reasonable manner; however, lockers may be searched on a random or pre-announced basis in order to ensure they are not being used for improper purposes.

OTHER EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

Recent tragedies in schools across the country have made us all sensitive to the reality of school violence and emergency situations. Creswell High School has a safety plan in place should an emergency arise.

EMERGENCY DISMISSAL/SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS

Poor weather and/or other emergency situations may require our school be closed or that we release students early without prior notice. It is impossible to call all of our parents in such an event. Please review with your student the steps you wish them to take should a closure occur.

Emergency announcements or school closures will be broadcast over local radio stations.

ILLNESS DURING SCHOOL

REPORTING ACCIDENTS/INJURIES

Any student receiving an injury on campus or at a school activity needs to report the injury immediately to a school official (a coach, someone in the office or the activities supervisor). It is important that proper treatment be administered as soon as possible.

If possible, fill out an accident report before going to a doctor or within 24 hours. You are protecting your own claim against student insurance of liability by following this procedure.

MEDICATIONS

Schools are prohibited by law to dispense any medication (including aspirin, first aid creams or sprays, etc.) without a written permission slip form signed by a physician. If you anticipate that your student(s) may require medication during the school year, please pick up a Medical Assistance Form from the office and take it to your physician to complete. At no time may prescription drugs or any other drug defined as a controlled substance on State Schedules 1-5 of the Oregon Controlled Substance Act, be kept in student lockers (unless specified by their physician). No students are to share medication with other students under any circumstances.
